The Thom Browne men collection 2015 is featured on the blog today. The New York based designer with the theatrical flair presented a unique, powerful and playful collection. As he said, he was inspired by the movie "Tron" and the video games. Lots of angles and folded points constructed an almost tecktonik clothing that moved with each joint.
All images are from www.firstview.com

SPECIMEN I embroidery. SPECIMEN II , embroidery.
Featuring two works of Harriet Maxwell on the blog today. She is a textile artist working with an Irish stitching machine which she uses as a drawing tool. She uses embroidery in a way that results in the fabric being gathered into small folds and wrinkles. As she says: "My work has recently become more focused on stitch. Rather than simply focusing on the surface of the skin, I feel that stitch allows me to construct the flesh, building up thread to reference layers of skin,The direction and density of the stitch contribute to a rippling effect, a rising and falling, which produces an almost sculptural outcome". The Benaki Museum Shop is hosting the exhibition "Remoulding Nature", by Margarita Ekklisiarchou. The main material the artist uses is porcelain and the series of works featured on the blog is "Shells".
Starting the"Revealing /Concealing" series on the blog today!
It is about the way folds veil, touch the human body and excite our imagination. Many working hours were required for the making of this table as each individual facet was hand polished to an impeccable finish. With an overwhelming price of s150.000 euros, unfortunately it cannot make it to mass production.... You can read more about it by visiting the assymptote site: http://www.asymptote.net/#!ivo-table-page/c1mvj The spring/summer Issey Miyake women's collection "3D Steam Stretch" explores volume and form with the help of technology. The label used a new technique which gives volume to the fabrics, simply with the effect of steam. The 3d forms and the surface manipulation are reminiscent of origami. The collection's color palette started off with very soft tones, slowly added color and finished with intense blacks. Janet Echelman found her true voice as an artist when her paints went missing — which forced her to look to an unorthodox new art material in a new way. She uses Fisherman's nets. With it she makes building size works that curve and flow in the wind.-----------Η Janet Echelman
